This is probably my favorite boy group in Kpop, by far. I know that they aren’t really relevant anymore, and each one is off having their own careers, but that doesn’t change the fact that I find myself listening to their music almost every day.
I stumbled upon ZE:A one day when I was checking the IMDB for a character on a drama I was watching at the time. I saw that he was in a group and I made a mental note to check out the group later. Obviously I did, and I immediately fell in love with the group. Their dancing was exactly what you would expect from a kpop group, and there were a few songs that just spoke to me. Since that day, I have listened to their music almost every day. This is just me wanting to share my favorite songs/dances. So, by now you guys know how this goes, let’s get started.

Number 5: Phoenix
This is was the first song that I checked out by ZE:A and I must say that it did not disappoint. The song is super catchy and what really caught my attention was the dance. It was simple yet, well put together. I learned the dance in a few days and find myself doing it all the time. I don’t think I have watched the music video for it until today though. I usually watch dance practice videos since I am more choreography oriented. I usually judge things based on choreography and emotions. Maybe it is something that is hardwired into my brain after eighteen years of dance lessons. If you are looking for a great upbeat and uplifting song, Phoenix is the way to go for sure.
Number 4: Here I Am
Here I Am is just another catchy song that I found myself listening to over and over again. It is just your simple love song. The video is adorable and the dance moves are simple. I feel like pretty much anyone could pick them up if they wanted. Yet, it looks so good when done. The moves are also done in a cute and innocent way making the video so much more fun to watch. The video is adorable, making the experience all around fun. Let’s get real though, all the girls are swooning over these guys while watching the video as well. There isn’t really anything else to say about this video.
Number 3: Watch Out!
Watch Out! is one of my favorites simply because the video is just too much. It is overly adorable and I can imagine how much fun these guys had while shooting the video. The dance is fun in a cute and adorable kind of way. It is a cute little love confession song. If I am being honest, this is the one that This song is probably one of the catchiest of all the ones that I have listened to, and I feel like that is a lot of them. More than anything, this video gives a look into the personalities of these guys. (I must take a minute and be fan girlish. Dong-jun in this video is the best part. He is so damn adorable. The smile is killer and I am swooned every time.)
Number 2: Breathe
Where as the last three were merely musical based, the next two are a little closer to my heart lyrically. This one has a much deeper meaning with a little more seriousness. It is also far more depressing. Considering the things that I have been through, it just speaks to me. With that being said, I am not fluent in Korean, so that is not what initially drew me into this song. Like I mentioned earlier, I tend to look at dance practice videos due to my dancing background. This one stood out to me solely because of feelings I was given while watching this video. It is by far my favorite dance number they perform. I can feel the emotions through their movement as well as their voices. Nothing makes a song better than an emotional attachment. As for the dance, it is one of their more complicated numbers. Now, as I say that, most of the choreography is not complicated. However, there are a few steps that I have yet to figure out completely just by watching the video. I love this song so much for all the reasons that make me love music so much. The video is also has beautiful imagery to accompany the song. It is just the perfect balance all around.
“I could always hear the soft sound
Of your breath in my ears
Now I can’t ever hear
Your voice again.”
Those words speak so loud to me.
Number 1: Aftermath
Obviously being number one on this list, Aftermath is my all time favorite ZE:A song. Like with Breath, lyrically this song speaks in volumes to me personally. I was trying to find a single line that really summed up everything and I couldn’t find one. The entire song is so deep and so powerful that I couldn’t find just a single line.
“I wish I could turn back time, I wish I could turn back time.
If only I could turn back time, I wouldn’t lose you
On that rainy night, if I had held onto you
You would still be by my side
Please come back, it’s too hard”
“I busily lose myself in work, meet up with friends so I have no time to think of you
There was no chance to feel your empty spot
I thought I was doing well
But what has happened? I think the words, “time heals all” is a lie
Why does it feel like only I am hurting all the time?”
These are the two spots that I ended up choosing as highlight pieces that really reached out to me. Now of course, lyrics aren’t the only thing that makes this song wonderful, it is just what places it above all the rest. I also fell in love with this simple choreography and the rhythm of the son. This was also the first ZE:A song that I made my own choreography to due to the expression and feelings of this song. It is so heart felt I couldn’t help but cry. That is what drove me to finding the English translation. It is so powerful. I know I have said that three times now, but that is just how much it means to me.
Overall, I will say that a lot of the songs can be repetitive, and most of them don’t have a lot of depth in the lyrics. However, with the beats that these songs have, they have captured my heart. All of these songs are all on my list of go to songs when I feel like dancing. None are overly serious, and have a sound that makes me want to get up and dance. For the dancer inside of me, that is all I really need for a great song! ZE:A is certainly my all time favorite boy kpop group thus far.
I hope you all enjoyed my favorite ZE:A songs. I hope to see you all in the next one. I am open to suggestions on other groups that I should check out. I am always looking for new songs to add to my ever expanding kpop playlist.
