Trick & Treat Review

Before I even get into my review of Trick & Treat, I wanted to let everyone know that I will more than likely be changing my schedule around a bit for this month. I have been struggling to find manga that fits in with the spooky vibes of Halloween. While I know for a fact there are a lot of those out there, I am having difficulties getting my hands on some of them. Now with that being said, I do have a few that I have in mind that will work. I also am not sure how many anime I will be able to drop here this month. Again, this has to do with my lack of knowledge about what fits. There were a lot that were recommended to me. However, I can’t seem to find them nor do I have the time to really sit down and binge watch a whole series every week. Now again, I will try my best to throw some of them in here but I don’t think I will be able to do weekly ones. So, I guess my main focus this month has come down to scary or creepy TV shows (mostly Asian) and video games. I have a lot of quick little video games that I have found, or games that I have played so many times that I could easily make a review for it. I am not sure, but we will see where this month of spooks takes us.

Anyway, for now let’s dive into the review of Trick & Treat.

Trick & Treat is a game that I found on steam a couple years ago, but never really took the time to play. It is a quick puzzle game that really only takes a couple of hours to play all the way through ( This is even including the time I got stuck on puzzles). This game includes three different endings, and about nine other ways that you can manage to kill yourself, as well as other hidden secrets that I haven’t even found yet.

Trick & Treat is about a witch named Charlotte who has created a maid out of a pumpkin who now goes by the name Amelia. Charlotte and Amelia decide they are going to go out trick or treating on Halloween and possibly play some tricks on their new neighbor. The girls decide to head off to the new mansion in the woods by their home. When they arrive, they are informed that there is a party. Before long, Amelia and Charlotte are separated and this is where the game play starts. In Trick & Treat you play as the pumpkin maid Amelia and you are trying to find Charlotte in the mansion. There is everything from ghosts to dungeons in this spooky mansion. Which you explore all while stealing candy from the poor owner of this mansion. The more you explore the mansion, the more you learn about the owner and his curse and by the end of it, you can potentially have a happy ending.

I honestly didn’t have many expectations for this game, as it was a free to play game on steam. However, it was a cute little story that I honestly had a lot of fun playing and figuring out. I have played through about six times total already in order to check out all the deaths as well as the multiple endings, yet I have still managed to miss some hidden gems in the game.

Anyway, the point is if you want a game with the Halloween vibe and is a quick playthrough, Trick & Treat is a good one. After knowing what I was doing, the game took me less than an hour to complete. I thought overall the puzzles were pretty well done, and some of them require a little bit of thought. Which was nice because it didn’t make the game overly simple. I also thought the characters were well done, and even after such a short game, I felt an attachment to the characters, no matter how minor the role. The game also featured such subtle references to literature. There are a few Alice and Wonderland references as well as some other novels. The art for the game was well done and super cute as well. I don’t really think I have any complaints…the only thing I could say is that a couple of the puzzles were VERY difficult to figure out. i resorted to guessing, but once I looked up the way to find the answer, it made perfect sense.

So, go check out Trick & Treat on Steam and there is actually a prequel out now as well. (Which I have not checked out yet.) So, for now, I hope you guys enjoyed this short little review on a short little game, and I hope to see you guys in the next one!!
