Monster Loves You Review

Here we are, yet again, with another game that I bought from Steam during one of their big sales and just have never gotten around to playing with it. However, I finally decided to play it because I thought this would be a perfect game to play for the month of October and all the spooky scary things. I will say this game is not really all that scary, but I still count it since monsters are SUPPOSED to be scary. Jeez…it’s the concept. So, let’s jump right into it.

Monster Loves You is a super simple game. It is essentially just a point and click, even you can even call it that. I am not sure. I am certainly not an expert on the different styles of game. I mean most point and clicks I know you are still adventuring, you just do so screen by screen by imagine this…pointing and clicking. This game is just a bunch of decisions never really truly exploring anything. Clearly, I don’t know how to explain it.

Anyway, Monster Loves You is a game in which you progress through the life of a monster. In this aspect, you go through the stages of life while making choices pertaining to the personality of who you want your monster to be. You wake up after being born in a vat of slime. It is here you begin your journey of growing into the kind of monster you want to become. Do you want to be a kind monster? A feared monster? Respected? The choice is ultimately up to you. After you grow from a baby monster, you become a monsterling. This is when you begin to form relationships with other monsters and exploring the world. Based on the choices you make, your characteristics will increase or decrease.

Eventually, you grow into an adult where you make the biggest decision, whether you want to descend or ascend. Both of these are very important roles to a monster’s circle of life. If you choose to try to ascend to become an elder, you must have become a well rounded monster. It is once you become an Elder you get to change the world, so to speak. You can influence the world to either love or hate monsters or even humans. Will you try to coexist with humans or will you try to make the human race go extinct? All these are things that are influenced by your decisions as an elder monster.

That is pretty much all there is to Monster Loves You. As simple as the concept is, overall it is an interesting game. There are multiple endings you can achieve. You can create a world with human extinction, monster extinction, or even as crazy as becoming a secret neurosurgeon in the human world. I have only gotten about four endings…I want to say there are roughly 10 different endings. Some are far more similar to each other than others. I found myself playing through this multiple times. It is a quick game that can take as little as a half hour for a single playthrough. I certainly won’t say that it is the best game out there but story wise it is pretty solid. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a short time wasting kind of game to play. So, really that is all there is to it. I don’t really have anything else to say about it. So, I guess until next time. Hope to see everyone in the next one!
